The difference between aluminum alloy casement windows and sliding windows.

Aluminum alloy casement windows are windows that can be opened and closed horizontally. These windows are defined by their opening mechanism and are now widely used in various decorative settings. Their advantages include a large opening area, excellent ventilation, superior sealing performance, and outstanding sound insulation, thermal insulation, and water resistance. Casement windows that open inward are convenient for cleaning; those that open outward do not occupy any space when opened. However, their disadvantages include a relatively small window size and limited field of vision. Outward-opening windows take up space outside the wall and are prone to damage in strong winds, while inward-opening windows also encroach on indoor space, making it inconvenient to use screens or curtains. Moreover, if the quality is substandard, these windows may even allow rainwater to seep in.

The difference between casement windows and sliding windows:
1. The appearance is different.
In terms of appearance, the primary difference between casement windows and sliding windows lies in their compatibility with the overall architectural style. Casement windows, thanks to their highly flexible grid design, can create facades with virtually any kind of linear aesthetic. Moreover, for large-scale floor-to-ceiling windows, the opening sash occupies only a small portion of the entire window; thus, they are particularly well-suited for high-end residential developments that place great emphasis on the overall architectural effect. They perfectly embody the architectural vision of large grids, spacious and bright interiors, excellent transparency, and harmonious, flowing exterior designs. On the other hand, sliding windows, with their horizontal sliding mechanism, are less adaptable to large fixed glass panes. As such, they are typically more appropriate for industrial buildings or rural family homes where simple, straightforward vertical and horizontal lines are preferred.
2. The quotes are different.
The price difference between casement windows and sliding windows at the same level is not significant; however, casement windows tend to be slightly more expensive than sliding windows. Typically, aluminum alloy casement windows cost between 200 and 350 yuan per square meter, while mid-to-high-end models start at over 460 yuan per square meter. Sliding windows usually range from 150 to 200 yuan per square meter.
3. Warming effect
In terms of thermal insulation performance, casement windows on the market typically use sealing strips for sealing, while sliding windows usually rely on brush seals. Generally speaking, sealing strips offer superior sealing performance compared to brush seals. Casement windows often employ two-point locks or six-way locks at the opening sash to ensure tight sealing, providing excellent sealing performance. In contrast, sliding windows usually use hook locks or push-to-lock mechanisms for locking, and their sealing performance is less than ideal.
4. Function
In terms of the three key functions of doors and windows—wind resistance, watertightness, and air tightness—casement windows generally outperform sliding windows. The wind resistance performance of doors and windows depends on the moment of resistance provided by the primary load-bearing members. Typically, the larger the cross-sectional area of a profile, the greater its moment of resistance—but this relationship is not entirely linear. Casement windows usually have smaller profile cross-sections; however, their primary load-bearing members are often mullions or central vertical stiles. During the design phase, these primary load-bearing members are reinforced accordingly, which contributes to their superior wind resistance performance. On the other hand, sliding windows typically feature larger profile cross-sections, so one might expect them to have better wind resistance. Yet, a closer analysis of the structural forces reveals that the main load-bearing members in sliding windows are usually the sash frames themselves. Moreover, the upper and lower sashes rely solely on pulleys to bear horizontal wind loads, resulting in generally less-than-ideal wind resistance performance. The watertightness of doors and windows hinges on the sealing performance of the opening parts. Casement windows commonly use rubber seals for effective sealing. As for air tightness, most casement windows on the market employ two-point locks or six-point locks on the opening sash to ensure a tight seal. Thus, casement windows generally perform better than sliding windows in all three key functions. This is precisely why most high-end residential and commercial buildings opt for casement windows.
5. Manufacturing Technology
In terms of manufacturing, sliding windows typically have a simple structure and place no special demands on equipment, making them suitable for small workshops equipped with compact electric saws. On the other hand, casement windows, which rely on 45-degree connections made with thick aluminum alloy corner pieces, require high-quality "corner-joint machines" and "double-head cutting saws" to produce superior aluminum alloy casement windows.
