How to choose high-quality steel fire doors?

Steel fire doors play a particularly important role as the first line of defense against fires in homes. But what should you do if you end up buying a substandard steel fire door that no longer provides fire protection? Recently, the fire department in a certain city uncovered and destroyed a batch of substandard steel fire doors that had used “honeycomb paper” instead of proper fire-resistant filling materials. In response, firefighters shared several tips for selecting high-quality steel fire doors.

But what should you do if you end up buying a substandard steel fire door that no longer provides any fire protection? Recently, the fire department of a certain city uncovered and destroyed a batch of substandard steel fire doors that had used “honeycomb paper” instead of proper fire-resistant filling materials. In response, firefighters shared several tips for selecting high-quality steel fire doors.
According to regulations, steel and wood fire doors are classified into three categories—Class A, Class B, and Class C—based on their fire-resistance rating, with corresponding fire-resistance limits of 72 minutes, 54 minutes, and 36 minutes, respectively. Moreover, the steel used to manufacture fire doors must undergo drying and flame-retardant treatments, and all hardware accessories employed must be fire-resistant hardware.
There are three key tips for selecting high-quality steel fire doors. The first tip is to examine the appearance: a high-quality steel fire door features solid welds with evenly distributed weld points; its exterior surface has a smooth and even coating. At the designated locations, the door should bear product markings, a certificate of quality inspection approval, and a mark indicating compliance with quality certification (or accreditation). A qualified steel fire door should have an intact appearance, free from damage, with a clean and polished surface devoid of planing marks, burrs, or hammer imprints. Its mitered corners and joint seams should be tight and smooth. At the specified locations, it must display the product marking, the certificate of quality inspection approval, and the mark indicating compliance with quality certification (or accreditation).
The second criterion pertains to dimensions: The external dimensions of a qualified product must be less than or equal to those specified in the sample description; the door leaf thickness must be greater than or equal to the door leaf thickness specified in the sample description; the width of the door frame side walls must be greater than or equal to the width of the door frame side walls specified in the sample description; the external dimensions of the fire-rated glass must be less than or equal to those specified in the sample description; and the thickness of the fire-rated glass must be greater than or equal to the thickness of the fire-rated glass specified in the sample description.
The third tip is to check the seal. A qualified steel fire door should be equipped with a fire-resistant sealing strip that is straight, free of any bulges, and accompanied by a certificate of compliance issued by a nationally accredited testing agency.
