Liuzhou Fire Doors: Introducing How to Maintain and Care for Steel Fire Doors

Although the fire-rated door initially had a perfectly suitable level of gloss after purchase, once the external protective film is removed during future use, it will easily accumulate dust or oil stains when exposed to outdoor conditions over time, thereby reducing the door’s glossiness. So, how should we properly clean steel fire-rated doors on a daily basis?

I recommend that everyone regularly clean the fire doors using a more specialized cleaning solution mixed with water at a ratio of 1:2. After thoroughly blending the solution, pour it into a spray bottle and use it to evenly spray the fire doors. Once spraying is complete, simply wipe the surface gently with a soft, pure-cotton cloth.

First, if you find it somewhat difficult to open the door, you can apply a bit more lubricant to the area where the locking tongue moves. This will reduce the frictional resistance when you open the door.

Second, if you hear a loud scraping sound when opening the door, it indicates that the door hinges are lacking lubricant. Another possibility is that the hinges themselves may be damaged. You can start by applying some lubricant and see whether the scraping noise becomes weaker or disappears altogether. If there’s no change at all, then you’ll need to contact the fire door manufacturer for inspection and repair.

Third, if you find that you can’t insert the key into the fire door lock, you should check whether there’s any dirt or debris inside the lock cylinder. If dirt or debris is blocking the keyhole, proceed with caution and have a more experienced technician perform the repair—never attempt to fix it yourself.

Liuzhou Fire Doors: How Effective Are Steel Fire Doors?

  1. Inspect the characteristics and structure of the steel fire-rated door’s anti-theft lock.

When selecting a drill-resistant lock cylinder, after an alloy drill bit penetrates the cylinder, the cylinder will rotate in sync with the twist drill as it turns, effectively preventing damage to the cylinder itself. Hardware locks are required to have a three-position locking mechanism; single-door locks feature three hinges, while double-door locks have six hinges. Additionally, concealed locks are installed in both the door frame and the door casing—so even if the hinges are chiseled away, the door still cannot be opened.

  2. Check the number of locks on the door and the total number of keys.

A good choice is to use two lock cylinders, each controlling two latch bolts on the door. Even if someone attempts to damage the locks, it will still take time. Generally speaking, a single lock cylinder can control three to four latch bolts. However, this type of door security system has relatively weak protection; once the lock cylinder is destroyed, both latch bolts will simultaneously lose their function. When examining hardware locks, pay attention to the thickness and total area of the reinforcing plates around the lock. Anti-pry doors come in two main designs: fully sealed and guardrail types. Regardless of which type you choose, the hardware lock itself remains a critical target for theft and sabotage. Therefore, the protective plate for the hardware lock should be made of cold-rolled steel with a thickness exceeding 2 millimeters, and its height should be no less than 500 millimeters.

  3. Check how the process quality is.

The types of materials used for anti-pry doors are fundamental, but the processing technology and product quality are equally important. It is crucial to carefully inspect for casting defects such as open welds, incomplete welds, false welds, and weld bumps. Also, check whether the door leaf fits snugly with the door frame, whether the gaps are uniform and consistent, whether the opening and closing action is smooth and flexible, whether all joints are secure, and whether the paint or plating is evenly applied, sturdy, and smooth.
