Fire-resistant rolling shutters serve the same purpose as firewalls for horizontal fire separation. They consist of 13 components: shutter panels, base plates, guide rails, supports, reels, housing, control boxes, door rollers, limiters, lintels, manual quick-release switches, push-button switches, and safety devices. They are typically installed in areas where it is inconvenient to use firewalls for separation.

  Fire-resistant rolling shutters are developed on the basis of steel rolling shutters, with modifications to the transmission components and the addition of fire-resistant devices and equipment to achieve fire protection functionality. The 3360 fire-rated motor is controlled by a fire-rated electrical control box and drives the roller shaft via a speed-reducing mechanism, enabling the opening and closing of the rolling shutter. In the event of a power outage, the manual handle on the fire-rated motor can also be used for manual operation. At locations involving relative mechanical movement, couplings replace chain-wheel transmissions, and copper plates or nylon inserts are embedded at friction points on the tracks. These shutters are suitable for factories and warehouses that handle or store highly hazardous materials such as flammable gases and volatile chemicals, as well as other environments where there is an existing or potential risk of explosion or fire.

  Fire-resistant rolling shutters serve the same purpose as firewalls for horizontal fire separation. They consist of 13 components: shutter panels, base plates, guide rails, supports, reels, housing units, control boxes, door rollers, limiters, lintels, manual quick-release switches, push-button switches, and safety devices. These shutters are typically installed in areas where it is inconvenient to use firewalls—for example, in open elevator halls, escalators, large sales areas in department stores, exhibition halls in convention and exhibition buildings, and other large openings in structures where fire doors or windows cannot be used. Fire-resistant rolling shutters are widely employed in construction projects, enabling effective fire separation.

  Fire-resistant rolling shutters are indispensable fire protection equipment in modern high-rise buildings. In addition to the functions of ordinary doors, fire-resistant rolling shutters also feature special capabilities such as fire resistance, smoke isolation, flame retardancy, and evacuation protection. They are widely used in high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, and other densely populated areas.

  What are the key points to consider when selecting fire-resistant rolling shutters? Let’s take a brief look at them together below.

  When selecting fire-resistant rolling shutters, the most important factor is their fire-resistance rating. There are two primary methods for testing the fire-resistance rating of fire-resistant rolling shutters: First, the fire-resistant rolling shutter undergoes a fire-resistance test according to the current national standard GB 7633, "Fire-Resistance Test Methods for Doors and Shutters," during which various criteria—including the temperature rise on the unexposed side—are evaluated. Second, also following GB 7633, the fire-resistance test is conducted; however, in accordance with the standard’s provision exempting metal roller shutters without thermal insulation layers from measuring temperature rise on the unexposed side, as well as the requirements of the product standard "General Technical Conditions for Steel Fire-Resistant Rolling Shutters" (GB 14102-93), the fire-resistance rating of the shutter is determined solely by the intensity of radiant heat at a specified distance from the unexposed side and whether flames penetrate the shutter surface. Consequently, the fire-resistance data obtained from non-insulated fire-resistant rolling shutters—where temperature rise on the unexposed side is not considered as a criterion for determining fire resistance—are significantly longer than those obtained from insulated fire-resistant rolling shutters, where temperature rise on the unexposed side is taken into account. Based on these testing methods, fire-resistant rolling shutters are classified into two categories: ordinary fire-resistant rolling shutters and special fire-resistant rolling shutters. Ordinary fire-resistant rolling shutters do not rely on temperature rise on the unexposed side for assessment; when their fire-resistance rating is at least 3 hours, they can meet both thermal insulation and fire-separation requirements. In contrast, special fire-resistant rolling shutters are evaluated based on temperature rise on the unexposed side; when their fire-resistance rating is no less than 3 hours, they possess thermal insulation capabilities and can satisfy fire-separation requirements. Since the fire-separation function of ordinary fire-resistant rolling shutters cannot meet the requirements for fire separation, if such rolling shutters are used, independent closed-type automatic sprinkler systems or water curtain protection must be installed on both sides of the shutter. The market for fire-resistant rolling shutters features numerous manufacturers; some manufacturers offer ordinary fire-resistant rolling shutters with fire-resistance ratings reaching 3 or even 4 hours. However, according to data provided by manufacturers and inspection reports from relevant national authorities, certain designers, due to a lack of clarity regarding the testing methods for fire-resistant rolling shutters, mistakenly assume that a fire-resistance rating of 3 or 4 hours means that protective measures can be omitted altogether and fire compartments can be directly established using these rolling shutters.
