No door or window openings should be provided in firewalls; however, if such openings are absolutely necessary, Class A fire-resistant doors and windows—either fixed or capable of automatically closing in the event of a fire—must be installed.
The primary function of fire-rated doors and windows is to prevent the spread of fire for a specified period of time, thereby ensuring the safe evacuation of personnel. For this reason, fire-rated doors and windows are widely used in high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, hospitals, warehouses, and other facilities with stringent fire safety requirements.
Fire-rated doors and windows typically use materials such as steel, wood, or steel-wood composites, and are equipped with fire-resistant glass and fire-rated hardware accessories to meet the requirements for fire resistance stability and fire integrity. Among these, Class A fire-rated doors and windows must have a fire-resistance rating of at least 1.5 hours, Class B at least 1 hour, and Class C at least 0.5 hours.
During installation and use, please pay attention to the following points:
- Fire-resistant doors and windows shall be installed in openings in firewalls, and their opening directions must face the evacuation direction.
- Fire-resistant doors and windows should be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure they remain in good working order and effective.
- In the event of a fire, fire-rated doors and windows should be able to close automatically or be closed manually to prevent the spread of fire.
